What Is the Liver Diet?

The fatty liver diet is one of several methods used to treat this disease. Fatty Liver Disease is a long term condition, which develops when the liver no longer functions properly due to several conditions including hepatitis, liver infection, cirrhosis, or multiple myeloma. In some instances, the condition may be caused by excessive weight. While the symptoms of the disorder may mimic other conditions, they are generally similar to liver failure in many cases.

Fatty livers may form due to any number of factors, some of which are not known. In fact, researchers do not understand how the disorder occurs. One theory states that the body will fail to produce enough bile during an individual's childhood years. Another theory states that fat can build up in the liver over time. A fatty liver diet works by removing excess fat and reducing cholesterol through diet and exercise. This article discusses the causes, symptoms, and treatments of this disease.

Fatty livers are most common among African Americans, Native Americans, and those with a history of alcoholic use. While the exact causes of fatty liver disease are not known, studies have shown that genetics may play a role. Studies indicate that people who have a family history of liver damage are more likely to develop the disease. Individuals with a history of alcohol abuse are at risk for developing liver diseases as well. People who are overweight, particularly obese, have also been found to be at greater risk.

There are two main categories of fatty liver. The first is called non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. This is a type of fatty liver in which there is no alcohol in the diet. The fatty acids in alcohol are absorbed into the body and act as catalysts for the production of bile acids, which are used to digest fats. The fatty acids in alcohol can actually increase cholesterol levels in the bloodstream, so the body needs additional bile production to break down fats. Non-alcoholic fatty liver is usually diagnosed in middle age when bile levels are normal.

Fatty liver that includes alcohol in the diet is called ethanol-containing fatty liver

This liver can also be called steatosis. Steatosis occurs when alcohol consumption increases and bile is not produced to break down fats in the liver. When the liver does not produce bile, sugar will produce bile. When this happens, excess sugar in the bloodstream can cause blood sugar to build up in the body, causing hypoglycemia, which can cause diabetes. As the sugar level rises the risk of fatty liver increases. The condition is usually treated with lifestyle changes and healthy eating habits, but there is no cure for steatosis.

Some obese liver patients may experience symptoms that mimic heart disease, but they have steatosis, not liver failure. Ayurvedic treatment for fatty liver is aimed at treating both steatosis and heart disease. Medicines used to treat steatosis include Arogya-Vardhini, Vata-Yograj-Vati, Laxmi-Vilas-Ras, Kutki (Picrorrhiza kurroa), Kaishor-Guggulu, Dashmool-Qadha, and Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera). These medications affect the liver as a whole and help remove toxins from the body, decrease the amount of bile produced, and decrease the production of fatty acids in the liver. These drugs work by breaking down fat molecules and making them smaller.

The medicines work by reducing the number of fat molecules in the bloodstream and by increasing the activity of the liver. Since fat is the primary source of fuel for the body, it is reduced in the bloodstream. When this happens, the body does not burn as much energy. Since fat molecules cannot travel to different parts of the body, they are stored as fat.

The diet should not contain too much fat, since this can slow down the metabolism and make the person feel sleepy. The intake of alcohol and dairy products must be limited as well. A balanced diet should consist of all kinds of fresh fruits, vegetables, cereals, lentils, legumes and nuts. In addition, if the patient has liver problems, a special liver cleansing formula can be used. A good liver cleansing formula can also be taken, which helps in reducing liver damage and promoting its function.
